October 2010 Newsletter

From the President:
Dear quilters,
What a wonderful day today it has been! After a mouthwatering breakfast of ham, cheese and mushroom omelet with hash brown style jicama early this morning, Todd left to go to Greeneville for a bicycle event. I spent the early part of the day finishing a quilt. Then having extra time on my hands this afternoon while waiting for him to return, I decided to make myself a huge bowl of popcorn with butter, of all things, and plop down with a movie. Do you ever notice the quilts in movies and TV programs? Usually the test of a good movie is that I think of nothing else at all while watching. There is, however, one thing that almost always will catch my attention and that is the quilts! Today was no exception and the thought of quilts crept into my mind. There was such inspiration in the beautiful colors and landscape on the screen. Letters to Juliet, is what I chose this afternoon, it is a wonderful movie for the romantic at heart, so full of hope and optimism.
One of my favorite movies of all time is Mama Mia. Amanda Seyfried is in both of them and that is probably how I made the stretch from Letters to Juliet to Mama Mia. The quilts in Mama Mia are wonderful. I am not sure how many there are, but there is one scene in which they are all lined up on the railing of the balcony of the dining area. I love that scene! Quilts really help make the set of a movie so much warmer, and believable for me, just like they make our homes and lives so much warmer.
Now Todd is on his way home and I need to think of dinner. I am afraid that hunger is not on my mind right now as I still can't believe I ate all that popcorn. Anyway, I am off to cook dinner and can hardly wait to get finished so I can spend the evening quilting away.
See you at the next meeting! I am looking forward to wonderful show and tell. Until then keep on quilting. -- Lynn Lucas

Programs

Finally, at last we have a wonderful Crazy Quilt Program for October. The world renowned Judy Twitty is going to show us some of her beautiful, award winning work and explain the techniques she used.
Many thanks to the presenters for the September program. I learn new things all the time and June, Beth S-O and Bernadette were so informative. It really helps to have members that will help with the programs. So all you all talented people out there sign up to share your knowledge next year. --Helen

Love Goddess's Report on Charity Programs
Two love quilts were received at September's meeting as were two more quilts for Epworth making a total of six finished quilts for the college girls there. Anita Bowen has gotten the name of the new contact person and I will call her to arrange delivery. A huge thank you to all who made our first Epworth Love project such a great success.
Remember the folks at Children's Garden with kleenex and antibacterials wipes in October, and of course, love quilts.
There are several quilt tops ready for quilting -- just let me know and I will bring to the next meeting all you need -- top, batting and backing. If anyone needs batting or labels for charity quilts please email me at mcross1915@aol.com.
Keep the quilts coming for the Breast Cancer Center. Unfortunately there is always a need there. Please remember October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. --Mary Cross
