December 2012 Newsletter


Ladies it that time of year we give our time and spirit to giving!! In the December meeting we make mini stocking to give to Palmetto Richland Pediatrics ER on Christmas. Just a very small token of Devine guild caring and sharing.  It's also a time to celebrate the guilds existent. So come and celebrate with the sisters of YOUR Devine Guild. Monday Night - December 3. Starting at 6:00pm

December is the Christmas party.  Bring potluck, and help with sewing about 200 mini stockings that are given out at the Palmetto Richland Pediatrics ER for their patients.  The following have signed up to bring:
            Sewers:  Bring sewing machines with ¼” foot or measure, neutral sewing thread (exempt from bringing food):  Leslie Mullins, Donna Royson, Pat Harwell,MaryLoo Puthack.
            Ironers: Iron and ironing surface :  One Loose Thread/One Loose Thread
            Trimmers/turners/finishers:  bring fabric scissors (turners, ribbon and large needles will be provided).  Bernadette Houghton, Betty Rose Smith, Joyce Browder, Maggie Klawitter, Wilma Black, Francine Gugger, Sandra Baker, Pam Kohl, Teresa Laverne, Sally Somerall.
If you are not on the above list, bring fabric scissors to help with the finishing.

Charity quilts update:  The 2012 running total is:
Adult completed:  6      Child completed: 24 (8 were turned in at the Nov. meeting!)    Total: 30
Delivered to Breast Center:  4   Delivered to Children’s Garden: 13    Total delivered:  17

Devine Quilters Guild Meeting
November 5th, 2012; 7:00 PM

1.      Sue Spillane called the meeting to order.  The minutes were approved with one correction to the spelling of Jodi Spillane’s name.
2.      The chairs each gave their reports.
3.      Leslie passed around a sign-up sheet for the Christmas pot luck meeting. Those members bringing supplies do not need to bring food.  Remember, we will be making Christmas stockings for area hospitals, just as we have done in past years.
4.      Joyce filled in for Helen and brought members up-to-date on the status of the Lone Star project.  Members were asked to fill out a letter-of-intent if they planned on submitting a lone star quilt for the exhibit scheduled in late 2013 at the Richland County Public Library’s main branch.
a.      Members were asked to fill out one form for each quilt if they hoped to submit more than one for consideration.
5.      Pat distributed the membership applications for 2013.  Members were asked to return them with their dues no later than the January meeting.
6.      The challenge quilts were unveiled and members voted for the one they liked best: #1 – Leslie Mullins; #2 – Bernadette Houghton; #3 – Joyce Greer.
7.      Sue Spillane conducted a demo on how to make Christmas ornaments using the log cabin pattern.  She also provided a paper-piecing pattern for the members to use when they try the technique at home.
8.      Congratulations to Donna Royson for taking first place in the small quilts category and to Courtney Royson for taking first place in the large quilt category at the South Carolina State Fair in October.
9.      Laurie Wozniak brought in the calendar of the American Spirit Batting Company, in which her quilt is featured.

Announcements:

Leslie Mullins will be conducting a number of classes in the coming weeks.  Please contact her if you are interested.

Joyce Greer reminded members that there are only 2 available sewing slots for Spring Quilt Camp 2013 remaining. She also has one camper that needs a roommate, so, that would be a cottage double.February Retreat at the Bishop Gravatt Center in Aiken.

Jody Spillane updated members on Hawthorne’s upcoming trip to New York; Hawthorne will be cheering in the Puppy Bowl.
