September 2010 Newsletter

From the President:

Howdy to all,
I love this time of year! Everywhere you look and go there are reminders that soon we will be awaiting summer's return next year. School supply time is so exciting for me, even though it has been many years since they were needed, I always have to fight the desire to stock up on notebooks, paper, pens and pencils. The pencils remind me not only of school, but of the scene in You've Got Mail, when he emails her that he would love to present her with a bouquet of freshly sharpened pencils. How exciting would that be to receive that bouquet of freshly sharpened pencils! I would take my wonderful bouquet and color in the squares of the crisp clean, just out of the package never been crinkled graph paper and conjure forth the masterpieces of all quilts. Those were my thoughts yesterday as I stood looking out the kitchen window enjoying the fact that it was raining. I noticed a few stray yellow leaves from the sweetgum tree falling to the ground and shivered with the excitement of seasons changing. Then, the dog had to go out, and just in case opening the door didn't do the trick, one step outside brought me back to reality and the fact that summer still with us. The spell was broken and the daydream, although faded, is not forgotten.
Today I will spend a most awesome day piecing and quilting something fabulous, a baby quilt, for the first grandbaby of, one of my mom's dearest friends.
I hope all of you are busy quilting or coloring away!
 See you soon,
 Lynn

Programs

With Mary's quilt kits, last month's meeting was a great success and hopefully we will have at least 5 new quilt tops next month.
The September meeting was chosen to auction off the partially completed quilt top. Someone will go home with a heirloom quality quilt in the making, will it be you? The more you bid, the more money we raise for the guild.
We are also going to be shown some more secrets and techniques by our members. Beth Stewart-Ozark is going to show us how she uses that new shrink and puff technique. June is going to show her super easy pillow case technique and Bernadette is going to show us how different materials work. It should be a very informative meeting.

Love Goddess's Report on Charity Programs
I have four quilts for Epworth college students (females) Two more are being bound. Thank you all who helped make this a successful new program. A final report will be given at the September meeting.
If you took a charity quilt home to finish last month, please bring it to the next meeting if it's finished or if you need batting or backing fabric let me know at mcross1915@aol.com and I will bring to September meeting.
Let's not forget the little ones at Children's Garden. Remember them with quilts and this month include school supplies, paper, crayolas, etc.
Last but not least, quilts for the Breast Center are always needed.
---Mary
