December 2010 Newsletter

From the President:

Hello to all,
We had to rub the sticks together this morning. That is code for turn on the gas logs. They certainly did a great job of knocking the chill off. I sat a close to them as I could for as long as possible. I even managed to extend the time by sketching. I have a brilliant idea for a new way to use my long arm now let’s see if I can get it from paper to quilt. Isn't it a wonderful day when your brain is busy concocting new ideas?
The challenge quilts were so worth the wait! Everyone's creative juices were in overtime. Each piece was wonderful. It was a joy to be able to see the work of such talented quilters. Thank you to all who participated.
I am looking forward to our next meeting when we make stockings, eat lots of food, all the while chatting and laughing. November and December are such busy months, what a wonderful blessing to be able to spend some of that time with friends quilting.
Thanksgiving is next week and I wish blessings to all. Please be safe if you are traveling or shopping. Don't eat too much turkey, and above all else quilt sometime! I hope to be stitching bindings down to the back of some of my quilts that have waited way too long to have that finishing touch. Happy Thanksgiving to all!
 Lynn Lucas

Programs

The December Meeting is always fun and this year especially. I can’t wait to see what everyone did with their crazy quilt information, from Pricilla Hair’s Playing in the Sandbox to Judy Twitty’s personal journey.
In addition to sharing our results, we will continue our tradition of making stockings for the hospital. Many of you signed up for a special task but if you didn’t, don’t worry there will be plenty to do. You may show up any time after 6:00 to start. We will also share finger foods and holiday treats.
This year we are going to do a wild and crazy gift exchange. Do not under any circumstance go out and buy anything! No! No! No! The idea here is to recycle, wrap up something that you already have (the more creative the wrapping better) and bring it to pawn off on someone else. It might be that atrocious vase that Aunt Grace blessed you with, it might be that horrible yard of material that you can’t imagine why you bought, but it could be something good like homemade fudge or a book you already read. Just wrap it up and bring it for the really fun part of the evening. Now, don’t not come because you don’t have a wild gift. We will have extras, we just want you to be here, because we always have a better time when you are here.

For the sewing of the little stockings to be given out at Palmetto Richland’s Pediatric ER:
The following people volunteered to bring:
Sewers (exempt from bringing food): Bring machine with ¼” foot or measure, neutral sewing thread.
Sue Spillane Betty Rose Smith Helen Brown Deborah Hotchkiss Linda Vandiver
Ironers: bring iron and ironing surface (can be small surface—stockings will be about 5” in size)
Joyce Greer Beth Ozark
Trimmers/turners/finishers: bring fabric scissors (turners, ribbon and large needles provided):
Jodi Spillane Geri Smith Kim Putnam Sallie Schirm Liz Florom Donna Bryan
Gail Ferrick Sandra Baker
