November 2010 Newsletter

From the President:

Hello to my fellow quilters!
Congratulations to all who entered quilts into the fair and congratulations to our members who will be taking home ribbons. Everyone is so talented I don't know how the judges decide. I hope everyone has had a chance to, or is making plans to, go to the fair and see the exhibits and have an elephant ear or what ever it is that you associate with the fair. There is still time so don't delay!
Fall is upon us judging from the amount of leaves on the ground just outside my back door. I know there are more to come. It is a wonderful thing to hear the crunch under foot when they first fall, and so much more wonderful to think of all the wonderful mulch they going to turn into for our gardens in the spring.
I have rotated my quilts from summer to fall and realize how many UFO's I have for fall. I really need to dig in and try to complete them in the near future. Maybe I will get that done before it is time to rotate from fall to winter. I'll keep you posted.
In the meantime I hope everyone is busy finishing up their challenge piece. I am looking forward to seeing them all.
Have great time and keep on quilting.
 Lynn Lucas

Your quilt should include a recognizable piece of the challenge material that was purchased from the guild as part of a fundraiser.
Size; No side smaller than 18 inches or larger than 80 inches.
Theme; any take on the world of insects, you may use a traditional insect pattern (like butterflies) or make an art quilt with delightful insects or show a world that insects would surely inhabit.

And now it is time for the November meeting and we get to see these wonderful, creative quilts, I can’t wait. If you haven’t made yours yet, there is still time. Just use ‘Prairie” colorway by Fusions in your quilt and pay the guild $2.
Last month’s meeting on Crazy Quilts by Judy was just fascinating. I hope you are all working on your personal version of this classic, due at the meeting in December. --Helen

Meeting called to order by Lynn Lucas, President.
Visitors introduced as Rachelle Apol, Pat Harwell, Dianne Weathersby, and Rose Wessinger.
A correction to the minutes from the September 13, 2010 was noted. The guild auctioned off the incomplete “opportunity” quilt for a total of $275.00 to an anonymous bidder. Otherwise, the minutes from the September meeting were approved.

No financial report was made, however, it was announced that annual dues of $24.00 are now being collected. A board meeting is planned to outline next year’s budget.
