Demo this Month

I was reminded this weekend that we had voted to begin the demos at the October meeting. So, the first demo will be:  So, you have a walking foot??  Or something like that. We will talk about pin basting, spray basting, and how to treat the quilt when doing straight line quilting with a walking foot. I will need 2 tables dedicated to this demo and I will start at 6:30.

PRESIDENTS NOTE          What a wonderful four days at Camp Gravatt.  Eighteen of us sewing, dancing, and singing in the Chapel. Food was great.  Thanks to our one and only Joyce Greer and her Facilitator Pat Whittle.  I worked on charity quilts for a day and a half--putting binding on five quilts.  Beth--I have one for Devine.  Thanks to Leslie for getting the ladies from Fiber on a Whim.  I thoroughly enjoyed the trunk show and the class on Seascapes

Devine Quilters Meeting
Monday, August 6th, 2012

Sue Spillane convened the meeting at 7:10 PM and introduced Jan Girod of "Fiber on a Whim."  Jan launched into a delightful talk about her evolution as a quilter with help from her partner, daughter Kristin Rodriguez.  Kristin was in charge of displaying her mother's quilts during the presentation.  Each quilt contained a variety of techniques demonstrating Jan's development as a quilt artist.  Guild members got to view Jan's work up close at the intermission.

The business meeting was called to order after the intermission.  Three new members were introduced.  The minutes from the last meeting were approved.  A report from the treasurer followed.  Given the level of funds in the treasury and the commitments the guild has made for the rest of the year, Sue encouraged everyone to participate to the fullest in October's silent auction.

Leslie reviewed the programs to come and asked the members to consider what activity they would like to have at the December meeting.  Some past activities were mentioned as part of the discussion, but a decision will not be made until more members weigh in on preferences.

Beth distributed quilt tops for quilting.  Nothing is new on the "Lone Star" project.

Sue told the members that we need a 2nd VP and a President in 2013.  She asked the members to think about candidates for these two positions.

The September meeting will be held on September 10th, due to the Labor Day holiday.  Please note the date change.

After Show and Tell, the meeting adjourned.

Remember, one of the 5 purposes of Devine Quilters is: “To enrich our lives by the commitment of donations related to quilts and other fiber arts (i.e. quilts, scholarships, time or efforts) to deserving organizations, hospitals, groups, or individuals”. The Guild’s main need at this time is for quilting the large number of tops that are ready—please take one home to quilt on your home short arm machine—straight line quilting or practicing your free hand quilting.  These quilts are a good size for practice!
Please keep in mind as you reorganize and/or thin out your stashes—we can always use quality fabric donations:  yardage for backings or for cutting up for kits, and fat quarters and 2.5” strips that you no longer need (how did thatfabric get in that bundle/jelly roll?).  I’ll collect them at all meetings.
