Devine Quilters Newsletter August 2012

From President Sue Spillane

Thank you Beth for leading us in preparing quilt kits for our charities.  The food that members brought added to the enjoyment.  Thank you all for participating?

I can't talk about my veggie garden, as I don't have one.  I do have flowers with a Hummingbird feeder.  I found I had to dilute the store bought liquid for the HB's.  They didn't seem to like it full strength.  Back to the flowers--if they wilt or die I just go to Walmart to replace.  That is my gardening!

Devine Quilters Guild Meeting
Monday July 9th, 2012

The quilters participated in Charity Night arrived at 6:00 pm to cut fabric and assemble kits for quilts to be donated in the coming months.  They each brought a potluck dish to be shared.

The business meeting convened at 7:30 pm and the minutes of the June meeting were approved.

Helen and Deborah, the co-chairs of the Lone Start project, reviewed the objectives of the project.  Maggie continued her update of the membership list.  Leslie review the upcoming workshops scheduled for August, reminded the members that the kit cost for the workshops will be covered by the guild, and announced her own workshop on July 12th on Zentangles for quilters.  Beth told the members the final count on the charity quilt would be forthcoming.

Laurie Wozniak was congratulated for getting her quilt chosen by the American Spirit Batting Company as one of twelve for their upcoming calendar.  A photo of the quilt will appear in the American Spirit's 2013 calendar.

Programs - Leslie Mullins

I am so excited to actually get to take a class with Fiber on a Whim. Not just one but two classes.  Under the Water, Over the Top will be Saturday (1-4) and Leave Your Fingerprints will be Sunday (1-4). There are still some seats available.  Give me a call:  422-0532.  Remember the guild is covering the cost of your kit fee.  YEAH!!

Bring a friend and enjoy learning how to use all those neat things you see in quilts.

Threads of Time invites you all to attend the program on Saturday:  Harnessing Your Creativity.

Monday night's program at Devine will be Once You Start You Can Not Stop.

October is our Silent Auction.  Please be thinking about making something to offer up.  Another opportunity to mix your quilting buddies with others.  Be sure to let everyone know that the opportunity for scoring some great deals for gift giving will be available.

November is the challeng real?  Hope you are thinking about your project.  Notice I did not say working on it?  I am still in the thinking stage...See you real soon, Leslie

Same as last month - I missed the last meeting so don't have any income :-) or outflow.

Charity Report from Beth Karr:

What a great Charity work night.  We made 22 kits, several of which were immediately adopted so that members could finish the kits out of coordinated fabrics from their home stashes.

Our three guests happily pitched in as well.  One adult quilt was bound and turned in.

I'll be bringing a few kits to each meeting for members to take home and finish at their convenience.

Please keep in mind as you reorganize and/or thin out your stashes--we can always use quality fabric donations:  yardage for backings or for cutting up for kits and fat quarters and 2.5" strips that you no longer need (how did that fabric get in that bundle/jelly roll?)  I'll collect them at all meetings.

We have a roll of batting--let me know your top's size and I'll add 8" each direction and get it to you at the next meeting or some mutually agreeable location.

Desired quilt sizes:  Any preschooler size for The Children's Garden.  Adult: lap size for use during chemo--approximately 40-48 inches wide by 5 to 6 feet long.

2012 running total is:
Adult completed: 5
Child completed: 12
TOTAL: 18

Delivered to Breast Center: 4
Delivered to Children's Garden: 13
TOTAL Delivered: 17
