March 2012 Newsletter
From the President:
We had a great presentation from Jane Przybysz, Executive Director of McKissick Museum. She presentated a slide show of some of the quilts at the McKissick Museum and discussed what was needed--digitizing them, along with putting sleeves on them. If you would like to volunteer for the project, contact Jane at the museum.
March meeting we have the Hoffman Challenge and the presentation of the Guild Challenge. If you haven't seen a Hoffman Challenge you are missing a treat. Every year the Hoffman Fabric Company picks a fabric and along with rules of the Challenge.
The last weekend of February is the Lancaster, SC Shop Hop. Held at USC Lancaster. You don't have to drive miles between vendors. They are all in one place. A fun event to go to.
Have a great time Quilting.

Charity Quilt Programs
At the February meeting, 4 completed quilts were turned in (2 child, 2 adult). Plans are underway for the July 9 meeting, where we will be cutting kits for future charity quilts.
Please keep in mind as you reorganize and/or thin out your stashes―we can always use
good fabric donations: yardage for backings or for cutting up for kits, and fat quarters and 2.5”
strips that you no longer need (how did that fabric get in that bundle/jelly roll?). I’ll collect them at all meetings.
We have a new roll of batting―let me know your top’s size and I’ll add 8” each direction and
get it to you at the next meeting or some mutually agreeable location. Desired quilt sizes: any
size for preschoolers. Adult: lap size for use during chemo―approx 40-48 inches wide by 5 to 6
feet long.
The 2012 running total is:
Adult completed: 2
Child completed: 4 Total: 6
Delivered to Breast Center: 0
Delivered to Children’s Garden: 0

We've had no response to the Secret Sister program so we will discontinue the newsletter articles for for now. I've found that after a few years this program needs to take a rest. So this must be our year.

Minutes for the February 6, 2012 Meeting
Sue Spillane, the Devine Quilter’s president for 2012, called the meeting to order at 7:05 PM. She introduced Jane Przybysz, the executive director of the University of South Carolina's McKissick Museum, who was scheduled as the evening's speaker. Dr. Prysbysz showed a slide presentation of the quilts in the McKissick's collection and reviewed the history of southern quilts and South Carolina quilts in particular.
After the presentation, the business meeting was called to order following a brief intermission for socializing.
• The minutes from the January meeting were approved.
• The treasurer reported that the guild had approximately $4,500 in the account, so funding for the scheduled programs for 2012 could go on as planned. An audit was recently completed, and there were no findings of note.
• The charity chair reported that 3 quilts had been finished. Presently, she is collecting 2 1/2" strips of fabric for future projects. "Charity Night" will be held in July, so yardage is needed from any member who has stash to dispose of or who knows of possible commercial donors. Batting is being ordered for the charity quilts.
• The program chair distributed laminated bookmarks with the guild's information for 2012 printed on them. She hopes they will be distributed through some of the fabric shops to publicize the guild's activities. The speaker for the April meeting is unavailable, so that meeting is currently being re-worked.
• Membership stands at approximately 40; guild pins are available for $5.00.
• The Hoffman challenge is scheduled for next month's activity. For those of you who like to "study ahead," more information can be found at http://hoffmanchallenge.com/index.html.
The meeting adjourned at 8:40 PM.
